Welcome From Captain Coonce

Welcome to the Second District! I am Captain Angela Coonce, the Commander of District Two.

Being the Commander of the Second District is an honor not only because of the great neighborhoods, restaurants, parks and businesses, but because it’s my home. I have been a resident of the Second District for over 20 years. I understand that my success in developing Crime Strategies and Community Outreach Programs have a direct effect on me and the lives of my family, neighbors, friends, and the businesses I frequent – I don’t take this responsibility lightly.

As a Police Commander, I have had unique assignments that provided me with the experience needed to develop new strategies for the Second District. I’ve served as the Commander of the Crime Laboratory and the Intelligence Division, and in both, I had the challenge of bringing high-tech and state-of-art technology into use. I also served in the Chief’s Office as an Aide to the Chief of Police which has provided me executive level insight into the SLMPD.

President Kennedy once said, “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” I truly believe this and continually work to better myself. My undergraduate degree was earned at Harris-Stowe State University where I played basketball. I later earned my Master of Arts Degree in Management and Leadership from Webster University am currently working on a second Master of Arts Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security. I am a graduate of the 236th Session of the FBI National Academy and Session 61 of Police Executive Research Forum’s (PERF) Senior Management Institute for Police. I attended the Anti-Defamation League’s – Advanced Training School on Extremist & Terrorist Threats and the Southern Police Institute’s Chief Executive Leadership Course.

I look forward to working with the citizens and businesses in the Second District!
