1-year-old Shot in Hamilton Heights, Parents Arrested

District 5 is investigating a shooting that injured a 1-year-old on October 22, 2025 in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood.

Shortly after 7:20 p.m., officers received a call for 1-year-old male shooting victim that arrived at a hospital with his parents. The father attempted to flee but was apprehended by hospital security at Laclede & Kingshighway.

The child’s parents, a 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, provided several conflicting statements of what occurred. However, a preliminary investigation and review of surveillance revealed the parents were involved in an altercation that involved several people while at a gas station in the 5500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. The 1-year-old was in the parent’s car while this was occurring.

After the altercation, the man and woman drove to the 1400 block of Clara where they were approached by individuals believed to have been involved in the altercation. The individuals eventually ran away. At some point, the 23-year-old man claims he heard gunshots at a close proximity to him. He then fired shots from his own firearm, which investigators later determined were the shots that struck his car with the child inside.

The 1-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to his foot and was listed in stable condition at the hospital. The 23-year-old man and the 20-year-old woman were taken into custody. Officers are still investigating the full circumstances and timeline of this incident.
