On July 14, two SLMPD officers and a civilian were transported to the hospital with minor injuries after a crash near South Kingshighway & Manchester.
A preliminary investigation revealed that around 11:30 p.m., the officers, who were operating a marked department Tahoe, were stopped at the southbound red light on South Kingshighway. While stopped at the light, an oncoming Hummer traveling northbound on South Kingshighway crossed Manchester and struck the SLMPD Tahoe on its driver side. The Hummer continued and struck a second vehicle behind the SLMPD Tahoe. At that point, the wheel of the Hummer dislodged and then struck a third car causing minor damage.
Both SLMPD officers were transported to the hospital where they were found to be in good health. The driver of the Hummer, a 27-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital after it was revealed a strong odor of alcohol was emanating from the driver. The man was arrested for suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated. Charges will be sought pending toxicology results. The investigation is ongoing.
