Just after 1 a.m. on January 21, 2025, SLMPD officers were requested to assist the University City Police Department regarding a missing person investigation. Officers were directed to the rear of an alley in the area of Olive & Whittier after the missing person’s cell phone was revealed to be pinging in that area. There, officers discovered a man, 23, that had been shot. He died at the scene.
A further preliminary investigation revealed this shooting to be related to an earlier ‘shots fired’ call in the 500 block of Whittier around 8:45 p.m. on January 20. When officers arrived at that scene, they observed a vehicle quickly leaving the area. Officers were able to stop that vehicle at Boyle and Lindell. A 27-year-old man was inside the vehicle, along with a weapon. The man was taken into custody for further questioning.
Detectives are still working to learn the circumstances surrounding this entire incident. SLMPD detectives are handling the homicide portion of this investigation. University City Police are handling the missing person portion of this investigation.
