On January 31, 2026, just before midnight, District 1 officers responded to a call for a shooting in the 4500 block of S. Broadway. When they arrived, they located an adult male in his 40’s that had been shot in the passenger seat of a Ford SUV. The man was not conscious and not breathing.
EMS responded and conveyed the man to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Homicide detectives were then called to the scene and initiated an investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that the shooting happened in the 2800 block of Itaska. A witness then drove the victim to the 4500 block of S. Broadway where they contacted this department. Suspected narcotics were also located inside the Ford SUV.
