District 5 detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred around 7:30 p.m. on June 26.
Around 7:40 p.m., a man and woman responded to the Central Patrol Division to report they had been shot. The victims both reported that they had just dropped off a fare at a location in District 5, however, they were unaware of the exact location and believed it was possibly the area of Kingshighway & Wabada. As they were leaving, the two victims reported that they went around a male occupying a black car. The victims further reported that the suspect grew angry that they went around him, and then the suspect drove alongside them and fired shots at the their car. The victims stated they then sped off and was chased by the suspect for a brief time.
Officers asked the victims if they could look on their phones to determine where they dropped off their alleged fare; however, the victims claimed they could not figure out how to do that. An investigation revealed a “ShotSpotter” call was received around the time of this incident in the 3000 block of Union.
EMS responded and conveyed both victims to the hospital where they were listed in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.
