ORIGINAL POST: July 20 11:43 AM

District 3 officers responded to a call for Shots Fired-Just Occurred in the area of 9th and Russell shortly before 1:30 a.m. on July 20.

An off-duty officer working security at a nearby establishment advised responding officers that he had heard multiple gunshots and observed occupants of a white SUV pulling someone into the vehicle prior to fleeing the area.

While on scene investigating, a call for a Hold Up was received where the victims advised they did not feel safe and relocated to the 1600 block of S. Broadway.

Officers met with the victims, both 24-year-old men, who stated they were seated in their vehicle which was parked near the intersection of 9th and Russell. As they were seated in their vehicle, before they pulled away from the curb, they were approached by four male suspects in dark clothing and ski masks.

One of the suspects reached inside of the vehicle through an open window and began removing items belonging to the victims while two of the suspects stood behind the victims’ vehicle holding a rifle.

At one point one of the suspects attempted to open the passenger door. The 24-year-old passenger of the vehicle produced his own firearm and shot the suspect leaning in the window.

The victims fled from the area in their vehicle and told officers they heard gunshots they believed to be fired by the suspects.

A 15-year-old male was dropped off by 3 males in a white vehicle at an area hospital. The 3 males and white vehicle fled the hospital after dropping of the 16-year-old.

The 15-year-old had been shot in the chest and a ski mask was recovered from the hospital. The 16-year-old remained at the hospital for treatment and was listed in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
