3 Arrested, Officers Exposed to Suspected Narcotic After Pursuit in Walnut Park West

Around 3 p.m. on July 24, officers on patrol in the Walnut Park West neighborhood attempted a traffic stop on a BMW travelling on Riverview near Garasche. The vehicle had an illegally tinted front windshield and no front vehicle license plate. The BMW fled at a high rate of speed eluding the traffic stop. A tactical pursuit of the vehicle was initiated and culminated in the 1400 block of Amherst where multiple people got out of the car and fled on foot.

After a foot pursuit, officers took three suspects, who are convicted felons, into custody. Four firearms were recovered from inside the BMW.

While searching the suspects, officers found suspected fentanyl on one of the suspects. While retrieving the suspected narcotic, the bag ripped and exposed four officers to the substance. One officer lost consciousness and was administered Narcan. All four officers were taken to the hospital for treatment and are expected to be okay.

The suspects face numerous charges, including Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Stealing of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of an Illegal Weapon, Assault 1st on Law Enforcement, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. The investigation remains ongoing.
