Accident Reconstruction is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that happened on August 21 in the Hyde Park neighborhood.

Shortly before 6 a.m., officers received a call for an “Accident Person Struck” on westbound I-70 near the Branch exit. A preliminary investigation revealed an unidentified male pedestrian was walking westbound on I-70. The man then walked across the westbound lanes towards the express lanes. At that time, he was struck by a Dodge Caravan.

The impact of the accident threw the pedestrian into another lane where he was then run over by a Hyundai Sonata and a Toyota pickup truck. All three drivers of those vehicles remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation. It is unclear why the pedestrian was walking on the interstate at this time, or if he was subsequently struck by any additional cars.

EMS responded and pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

An update on the victim’s identity will be released once available.
