District 3 is investigating a shooting that left an 8-year-old injured on July 7 in Gravois Park.
At approximately 7:25 p.m., officers received a call for a shooting at a residence in the 3400 block of Cherokee Street. Upon arriving, they located an 8-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to his face. Officers placed the child in a patrol car and transported the child to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
A preliminary investigation revealed the 8-year-old boy was in a home with several other children and teens. It is believed they were playing with a gun when it went off. A 12-year-old boy reportedly left the home with a handgun after the incident but was located in the rear yard of the residence. The 12-year-old was taken into custody for the shooting. A parent at the home advised officers she was upstairs in the residence at the time of the incident.
An investigation into how the children got a gun and the full timeline of the shooting remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call a 3rd District detective at 314-444-2500. Additional detail will be provided as further information develops.
