Around 1:30 p.m. on July 31, 2025, SLMPD Intelligence Detectives were in the Hyde Park neighborhood relative to an investigation into a Ford Fusion. The Ford was revealed to have been taken in a violent armed carjacking around 1:20 a.m. that morning from Blair Avenue & Palm Street. Relative to that carjacking, a 53-year-old man reported he was forcefully removed from the Ford at gunpoint by a male suspect and thrown to the ground.
While detectives were surveilling the carjacked Ford Fusion in Hyde Park, multiple individuals arrived in a separate dark grey vehicle and approached the carjacked Ford. When officers attempted to investigate, an armed male suspect took off running.
Officers engaged in a foot pursuit of the armed suspect while giving multiple commands to the suspect to drop the weapon. The suspect continued running into an alley at Salisbury & N. 20th Streets where officers engaged the suspect and shots were fired.
The suspect was struck by the gunfire. EMS responded and performed lifesaving measures; however, the armed suspect died at the scene. A firearm with an extended magazine and conversion device was recovered off the suspect, along with the key fob that belonged to the carjacked Ford Fusion. No officers were injured during the incident.
The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Carlos Jackson of St. Louis City, MO. The Force Investigation Unit is handling the investigation of the officer-involved shooting, and the investigation into the carjacking remains ongoing.
