District 3 is investigating a carjacking that happened around 4:15 p.m. on October 7 in the 3700 block of Pennsylvania.
A 23-year-old male victim told officers he had pulled over in the 3700 block of Pennsylvania to check his vehicle due to it making noise. At that time, the victim said a light-colored 4-door sedan pulled alongside his car, and an unknown male suspect exited the sedan and got into the victim’s car.
The victim said when he tried to stop the suspect, a second unknown male suspect in the light-colored sedan pointed a firearm from the rear passenger seat and told the victim to get back. The victim complied and then the first suspect fled in the victim’s 2015 Chevy Malibu. The light-colored suspect sedan also fled from the scene.
Around 10:30 p.m., officers on patrol spotted the victim’s Malibu in the parking lot of a gas station in the 500 block of Bates. When the Malibu drove off the lot, officers attempted to conduct a car stop however the Malibu fled from the officers. A pursuit was initiated that ended in the 6000 block of Virginia where a male driver and male passenger exited the Malibu and ran away, prompting a foot pursuit.
The driver of the Malibu, a 23-year-old male suspect, was apprehended. The male passenger got away. Two firearms were recovered. The suspect was transported to the hospital for a fit for confinement and then taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
