District 5 is investigating a robbery that occurred at a business on December 19 in the 4900 block of St. Louis Ave.
A preliminary investigation revealed that shortly before 3:15 p.m., a female suspect entered the Salamas Market and demanded a pack of cigarettes. The suspect claimed to have been charged for the cigarettes a week ago but did not receive them.
While speaking with an employee about the situation, the suspect became upset, produced a handgun then pointed it at the employee. The employee relinquished a pack of cigarettes to the suspect. The suspect was involved in a physical altercation with an employee before fleeing from the scene.
Further investigation revealed the suspect suffers from mental health conditions. The investigation is ongoing.
