Update on June 23 at 12:40 p.m.:

Homicide Detectives continue to investigate the overnight shooting that killed one person and injured several others.

A total of six people were shot around 2:30 a.m. on June 23 on 10th Street near Market.  Of the six people hit by gunfire, one person died. A second victim, an 18-year-old man from South St. Louis County, is in critical condition.

The man who died has not been positively identified but is believed to be an adult in his mid-20s.

The other victims, all listed as stable, include a 21-year-old woman from St. Louis, a 23-year-old man from St. Louis, a 24-year-old man from St. Charles County and a 22-year-old man from University City.

Investigators believe fights broke out between women in the park. At some point, men became involved and firearms were pulled. At least one firearm was recovered from the scene but it’s too soon to know if it’s involved in the shooting.

“St. Louis is not alone when it comes to conflict-resolution issues,” Public Affairs and Information Division Director Mitch McCoy said. “We have to figure out, as a community, how we can resolve problems without guns.”
