Around 9:30 a.m. on March 23, 2025, detectives with the Force Investigations Unit were contacted by the St. Louis City Justice Center regarding a male detainee who was found unresponsive in his cell, transported to the hospital, and pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation reveals that the detainee was transported to the hospital on March 22, 2025, for a reported medical emergency. The detainee was transported back to the CJC after an evaluation by hospital staff. He was later found unresponsive on the morning of March 23 and transported to the hospital.
While the investigation is early, there are no obvious signs of trauma and it appears the detainee experienced a medical emergency.
The Force Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating all in-custody deaths and will conduct an extensive investigation and report.
