A man has died due to complications from a gunshot wound that injured him during a robbery and shooting that happened on October 24, 1989.
62-year-old John Henry Davis, who was 27 at the time of the incident, was shot during a street robbery that happened around 11:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of N. Jefferson. Davis was admitted to the hospital on April 20, 2024 suffering from abdominal pain. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital on April 30, 2024. A finalized Medical Examiner’s report on July 29, 2024 found the cause of Henry’s death to be “complications of remote gunshot wound of torso” from the original 1989 shooting.
The suspect, 73-year-old Ivory Jones, who was 38 at the time, was arrested and sentenced for the crime. He has also since died.
Under the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s NIBRS crime reporting criteria, this case will not be reflected in 2024 homicide stats.
