District 4 is investigating a shooting that left a 32-year-old man injured shortly after 7:15 p.m. on October 23 in the 700 block of Market St.
Officers had responded to a shooting call in the 700 block of Walnut where they located the 32-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. The man was unable to provide a statement due to his injury and was transported to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
A preliminary investigation was able to determine that the 32-year-old man was taking a break from working rideshare, and was speaking with two other acquaintances, 27 and 29-year-old men, while parked in the 700 block of Market. During that time, unknown males in a Hyundai Elantra pulled alongside them. At that point, one of the unknown males entered the 27-year-old man’s car. A struggle ensued wherein the 27-year-old man attempted to prevent the unknown male from taking his car.
During the struggle, the 27-year-old man said he heard a gunshot and ran away, along with the 32 and 29-year-old men. The men ran until realizing the 32-year-old man was shot.
The unknown male suspect reentered the Hyundai Elantra after the incident. The Elantra then fled from the scene. No other persons were injured. An investigation is underway to determine if the gunshot came from someone in the Elantra or the suspect involved in the struggle.
