District 5 is investigating a shooting that left a 74-year-old man injured on November 27 in the 2800 block of Union.
The 74-year-old man told officers he had just left work around 12:30 a.m. and was walking south on Union with his 70-year-old friend when they observed an unknown male suspect acting erratically and talking to himself. The 74-year-old said he and his friend proceeded to cross the street to avoid any confrontation. At that point, the suspect appeared to have become offended, pulled out a firearm, and then fired shots at the two men.
The 74-year-old was struck in the arm by the gunfire. The 70-year-old was not injured. The suspect fled after the shooting.
EMS responded and transported the 74-year-old man to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.
