District 4 officers responded to the train tracks near 1st and Cass around 1:00 a.m. on July 13 after a train struck a man lying on the tracks.
The 59-year-old Locomotive Engineer and 49-year-old Train Conductor told officers the Conductor alerted the Engineer to someone laying on the tracks.
The Engineer sounded the horn but the individual did not move. The Engineer initiated an emergency stop of the train; however, the train did not stop before striking the man.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
