Original Post: September 26, 12:29 p.m.:

District 2 officers responded to a call for Disturbance after a 37-year-old man came into the private offices of Renaissance Financial and refused to leave. When officers arrived, they observed the man with a dog.

The man retrieved a pair of scissors and officers ordered the man to put the scissors down. The man refused to put down the scissors and attempted to stab his dog.

An officer deployed his taser which had no effect.

The 37-year-old man ran from the officers after the ineffective taser attempt and began pulling on locked office doors in a narrow hallway as officers followed, still ordering him to put the scissors down.

At some point the man began stabbing himself with the scissors. He then ducked into a doorway where he was partially hidden from officers and appeared to be stabbing the dog.

An officer fired his gun striking the man. EMS responded and took the man to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The injured dog was taken to the Humane Society for treatment.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The Force Investigation Unit assumed the investigation.
