The 18-year-old was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Exhibiting and Property Damage 2nd by the Circuit Attorney’s Office.

District 1 officers responded to Disturbance in the 5200 block of Idaho around 6:45 p.m. on November 1.
An 18-year-old man was reportedly threatening his mother and another woman.
When officers arrived, the 18-year-old man was damaging a gate to a vinyl fence in the gangway with a hammer.
The 18-year-old man began walking out of the gangway toward the officers. The officers began retreating out of the gangway and ordered the man to drop the hammer.
The 18-year-old man did not drop the hammer and continued to advance toward the officers. A 30-year-old male officer with over 6 years of service fired his department issued Beretta, striking the man in the leg.
A 30-year-old male officer with over 2 years of service then deployed his department issued Taser and the 18-year-old man was taken into custody.
EMS took the man to an area hospital where he was listed in stable condition. An affidavit for a mandatory psychological evaluation was also prepared, as the man has been experiencing recent episodes of mental health crisis.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The Force Investigation Unit responded and assumed the ongoing investigation.
