District 1 is investigating a carjacking that happened on December 23 in the 4300 block of S. Broadway.

A 47-year-old man told officers that he had just picked up a female acquaintance and went to the Conoco Gas Station in the 4300 block of S. Broadway around 5:30 a.m. at her request. The 47-year-old said he made a purchase at the gas station while the female acquaintance remained in his car, which was parked at a pump. While walking back to his vehicle, the 47-year-old man said two male suspects approached him with firearms and demanded his car keys.

The 47-year-old man said he relinquished his car keys to one of the suspects, and then both suspects fled in the 47-year-old’s Cadillac Escalade while the female acquaintance remained inside of the car.

Around 1 p.m., the Real Time Crime Center received an LPR hit (license plate reader) of the man’s Cadillac on South Grand at Arsenal and advised district officers of such. District officers then located the Cadillac at South Grand and Connecticut. As officers began pulling behind the Cadillac, it took off and eventually began going at a high rate of speed.

A pursuit was initiated. The Escalade struck a vehicle and multiple sidewalk curbs before becoming disabled in the rear of the 3100 block of Chippewa. At that point, three males and a female exited and ran from the Escalade. The three males, 32, 40, and 34 years old, were taken into custody after a foot pursuit. The female got away. Suspected narcotics and two firearms were seized.

This investigation remains ongoing.
