Triple Homicide Suspect Killed in Shooting Involving Law Enforcement

Around 4:00 a.m., St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the 5100 block of Wells to investigate a ShotSpotter Activation. When officers arrived, they located an adult man who was found shot on the front porch of a residence. The man died on scene.

Homicide detectives responded and started to investigate. Detectives requested ATF to assist them locating ballistic evidence. Officers and detectives surrounded the home and secured the perimeter while they awaited a search warrant.

Around 7:00 a.m., while surrounding the home and waiting for a search warrant, a man who inside the residence came outside and had a brief conversation with law enforcement before re-entering the home. Moments later, the man exited the home again but armed with a rifle.

One SLMPD officer and one ATF agent exchanged gunfire with the suspect, before the suspect retreated back into the home.

The SLMPD requested its SWAT team to respond to the scene.

As SWAT officers entered the home, they located the suspect dead near the front doorway. The suspect’s positive identification is still pending, but at this time investigators believe the suspect is a 61-year-old man, who is a convicted felon.

SWAT officers continued to search the home where they found an adult woman dead inside the living room and an adult man dead in the basement.

No officers or federal agents were injured.

The SLMPD officer is 28-years-old with 3 years of service.

A total of five guns were recovered from the home, three of which were located near the suspect.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
