Update:
The deceased suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Kobie Davis of the 1800 block of S. 40th Drive, Urbana, IL.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Force Investigative Unit is investigating the use of deadly force by a Leadington, Missouri police officer that occurred within the City of St. Louis.
Around 2:50am, SLMPD received a call regarding an Officer in Need of Aid outside The Wheelhouse, located at 1000 Spruce. Shortly after, we received calls for a shooting.
A preliminary investigation reveals multiple police officers from other jurisdictions were working secondary at The Wheelhouse and were attempting to break up a large fight outside the establishment. At least one officer attempted to break up the fight and deployed pepper spray. During the large altercation, a 25-year-old man pulled a firearm. A Leadington police officer stated he ordered the armed man to drop his firearm when the officer shot the suspect. The officer was not injured.
The armed individual was taken to the hospital and has died. The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene.
After the incident, SLMPD received a call from an area hospital about a 26-year-old who reported being grazed by a bullet during the incident. The 26-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The Leadington police officer has 18-years of law enforcement experience.
The Force Investigative Unit is responsible for investigating all uses of deadly force used by any law enforcement officer within the City of St. Louis.
