Force Investigation Unit Investigates After Shooting Ends in Suicide

District 6 officers responded to a Call for Help shortly after 9:30 a.m. where a female indicated she was armed with a firearm and was going to harm herself.

At around 10:00 a.m. a call for a Shooting-Just Occurred came in from the area of West Florissant and Claxton. A caller told the 911 evaluator that a woman shot at a man in a vehicle.

Officers responded to the area and found the woman near the intersection of West Florissant and Alcott. She was armed with a firearm, which she was holding to her head.

Officers gave verbal commands for the woman to put the gun down. At one point, the woman bent down and began to place the gun on the sidewalk. She suddenly began to stand, with the gun still in her hand, and began to raise the gun. An officer fired one shot that missed the woman. She continued to raise the gun to her head and pulled the trigger, firing one shot.

EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

A 71-year-old man identified himself as the woman’s boyfriend. He told investigators that the woman was distraught and armed with a firearm. He was able to disarm the woman of her firearm, but she was able to take his gun from his waistband. After she was able to get ahold of his gun, the woman shot at his vehicle. The 71-year-old man was not injured.

A 66-year-old man told investigators that he went to the front door of his residence when he heard gunshots outside. He said the woman fired a shot at him and missed. Apparent ballistic damage was observed to the front of the man’s home.
