SLMPD Rolling Out 28 Take-Home Cars as part of Collective Bargaining Agreement

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is pleased to announce the start of the Personally Assigned Marked Patrol Vehicle Program, which began on October 7, 2024.

The initiative, signed in March of 2023 as part of a Collective Bargaining Agreement, included a commitment to provide 28 personally assigned take-home cars to qualified commissioned officers. The cars will be issued based on availability and in order of seniority to commissioned staff with the rank of Police Officer and Sergeant. Those receiving a car will meet the following eligible criteria:

  • Completed at least 5 years of commissioned service and be in good standing with the Department.
  • Occupying a uniformed patrol assignment (ex., district patrol)
  • Reside in the City of St. Louis
  • Any other personnel authorized by the Police Commissioner.

Personally assigned marked vehicles will be used for work-related purposes to include patrol duties as well as travel to and from approved training, educational, or fitness locations. The cars are not authorized to be used for non-work-related purposes and will be in compliance with the City of St. Louis Vehicle Policy Manual.

This program is an effort to continue SLMPD’s mission to retain its officers and attract potential candidates to the department.
