District 5 is investigating a shooting that injured a 1-year-old on September 1, 2025 in the 1500 block of Clara Avenue.
Just before 8:45 p.m., officers received a shooting call at a gas station in the 5500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. Upon arriving, they located a 25-year-old woman with her 1-year-old daughter who had a gunshot wound to her arm.
The 25-year-old woman told officers she, her daughter, and the father, 25, were inside their residence in the 1500 block of Clara when the 1-year-old was shot. The mother reported she was cooking when the incident occurred. The father, who was located at the residence, claims an unknown subject fired a weapon from outside into the residence. It is unknown why the mother responded to the gas station to contact police. Detectives are still working to determine the circumstances of the incident and the validity of these claims.
EMS responded to the gas station and transported the 1-year-old girl to the hospital where she was listed in stable condition. The 25-year-old father was taken into custody on unrelated charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
