Quarterly Report: St. Louis City Continues Downward Crime Trends to Start 2025, Lowest Year-to-Date Homicides in 20 Years

On April 2, 2025, the City of St. Louis Office of the Mayor and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department held its Quarterly Crime Report to update the community on year-to-date crime rates from January through March of 2025.

As of today, the City of St. Louis has seen a continued decline in violent crime, with the lowest number of year-to-date homicides recorded since 2005. The Department’s homicide clearance rate currently stands at 100%.1

For the first three months of 2025, overall crime is down 28% compared to this time last year, and down nearly 50% compared to the same time frame in 2023.

While the City of St. Louis has seen a historic decrease in homicides, which is sign of progress, an uptick of robberies occurred during the weekly CompStat reporting period from 3/17/2025 to 3/23/2025. However, SLMPD officers and detectives have diligently worked on robbery investigations, to include several carjackings wherein five individuals were arrested for a string of carjackings that occurred during the weekend of March 28 through March 29.
