Beginning around 5:30 p.m., District 3 officers responded to a shooting in the 3600 block of Illinois Avenue near a series of condemned apartments. Officers located an adult woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Early information indicates an argument occurred between the victim and the shooter before shots were fired. The victim was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
Around 9:30 p.m., officers were called to the 8200 block of North Broadway after reports of an accident and disturbances involving a large party with hundreds of juveniles. After the party ended, many of the juveniles moved into the street, creating unsafe conditions. Officers closed Broadway for safety and used their vehicle PA systems to order the crowd to disperse and contact their parents for rides. Despite repeated orders, many juveniles refused to leave. While officers were working to clear the area near Broadway and Halls Ferry, multiple gunshots were fired within the crowd. Officers immediately and heroically ran toward the gunfire and located a 14-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers began life-saving measures before EMS arrived. She was transported to the hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition, thanks to the quick actions of officers on scene.
Just before 11:00 p.m., officers responded to St. Charles and Tucker for a reported shooting. Officers located ballistic evidence at the scene but no victims. Shortly afterward, a hospital notified police that an adult woman had arrived with a gunshot wound believed to be connected to this incident. Her injuries appear to be non-life-threatening. The investigation remains ongoing.
At approximately 11:45 p.m., officers were alerted by a hospital after a 17-year-old male arrived seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. The victim reported he was downtown near 7th and Chestnut when he heard multiple gunshots and realized he had been shot. He drove himself to the hospital and is currently stable. Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances of this shooting.
Shortly before 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a shooting at 1911 Locust. Ballistic evidence was located at the scene, and officers were later notified that two men — ages 24 and 27 — had arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds. Both have non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation indicates the 27-year-old, a convicted felon, was involved in a shootout with another individual near Marquee Lounge when both men were struck by gunfire. The second suspect has not yet been located. Detectives are working closely with the Circuit Attorney’s Office regarding potential charges against the 27-year-old.
Around 4:45 a.m., officers responded to a hospital after a 19-year-old male arrived with a gunshot wound. The victim reported he had been attending a street takeover near 9th and Branch when multiple people began firing shots in different directions, and he was struck. He was taken to the hospital by a friend and is currently stable.
None of the shooting incidents are believed to be related.
These incidents occurred alongside multiple street takeovers across the city overnight. Around 9:30 p.m., vehicles blocked traffic near Morgan Ford and Gravois, where reckless driving and fireworks were reported for approximately 15–20 minutes. During this incident, a woman hanging out of a vehicle was ejected after the car crashed and suffered numerous, but non-life-threatening injuries. Officers from South Patrol were able to quickly develop a plan and disperse the gathering.
Additional street takeovers were reported near Carrie and Broadway, 13th and O’Fallon, and 13th and Cass. Officers from Mobile Reserve and the Anti-Crime Task Force deployed spike strips on approximately 50 vehicles that fled from law enforcement while engaged in reckless activity.
Throughout the night, officers responded from call to call without hesitation — often running toward danger to protect others. Their professionalism and dedication to keeping our community safe does not go unnoticed.
One consistent concern we observed overnight was the number of juveniles present at these gatherings without parental supervision. Our officers should not be placed in the role of babysitters, and our city is not a playground for this type of reckless and dangerous behavior. The violence we saw overnight is unacceptable.
