Around 8:20 a.m. on July 15, officers received a call for a carjacking in the 10 block of N. Newstead. Upon arriving, a 35-year-old man reported he was walking to his Honda Accord when he noticed an unknown adult male suspect sitting in the driver’s seat of his car. The 35-year-old man said he attempted to make the suspect get out of his car; however, the suspect instead accelerated and fled, striking the 35-year-old man in the process.

The 35-year-old man suffered abrasions to his shoulder and knee. He was treated at the scene by EMS.

At approximately 12:10 a.m. on July 16, Real Time Crime Center detectives received a License Plate Recognition hit on the carjacked Honda Accord, which was traveling in the area of Lindell & N. Vandeventer. District 5 officers located the Honda and attempted a traffic stop, but it fled. A pursuit was then initiated.

The Honda continued fleeing from officers throughout multiple jurisdictions before crashing at Lillian & Plover Avenues. Four subjects – three 18-year-old males and one 21-year-old male – bailed from the Honda but were apprehended after a foot pursuit. A firearm was recovered from inside the Honda. All four subjects were taken to the hospital for evaluation and deemed fit for confinement. They were then taken into custody.

No officers were injured during the incident, however, two SLMPD officers were involved in a minor accident with each other during the pursuit. The investigation remains ongoing.
