Burglary Suspect Found Dead in River Des Peres

District 1 detectives are investigating after the body of a 45-year-old man was found in the River Des Peres around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24.

Investigators believe the dead man is the same individual suspected of attempting to break into a home in the 4600 block of Primm earlier that same day, at approximately 3:20 a.m.

A home owner contacted police after the suspect broke a front window of the residence, in an apparent attempt to gain entry through the front door. Investigators were able to look at surveillance footage and located evidence at the scene identifying a possible suspect.

Blood evidence was found at the scene of the burglary and investigators believe the suspect may have cut himself on glass during the incident. Blood evidence was also found at the scene where the body was discovered in the River Des Peres and the dead man appeared to have a laceration to his hand.

No other obvious signs of trauma were initially observed on the dead man’s body. The investigation is ongoing, pending the results of the Medical Examiner’s Office.
