The deceased woman has been identified as 44-year-old Hyansama Reese of the 5300 block of Enright.
The SLMPD Accident Reconstruction Unit, Force Investigation Unit, and District 6 Detective Bureau are investigating after a carjacking incident resulted in a fatal crash on April 13, 2025 at Natural Bridge & Union.
Around 8:30 p.m., a 22-year-old woman was carjacked of her Nissan Altima in the 700 block of Belt near Enright by a group of individuals armed with guns. Approximately 20 minutes later, the Real-Time Crime Center alerted officers to the direction the Nissan was traveling.
A Mobile Reserve officer then spotted the carjacked Nissan at Natural Bridge and Goodfellow driving dangerously. The officer activated his lights and sirens and attempted to stop the Nissan eastbound on Natural Bridge near Belt. The Nissan continued driving at a high rate of speed until violating a red electric signal at the intersection of Natural Bridge & Union. After violating the red signal, the carjacked Nissan T-boned a Hyundai Sonata, which was travelling north on Union.
A woman in her 40s who was driving the Hyundai was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Officers took two adults, a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, and three juveniles, a 16-year-old male, a 15-year-old male, and a 15-year-old female, into custody from the carjacked Nissan. The two adults from the carjacked Nissan were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. One of the juveniles, the 16-year-old male, was in possession of a firearm which was seized. An additional firearm and a replica firearm were also recovered from the scene.
As of this writing, the investigation into the full circumstances of the incident remains ongoing. The Public Information Office will provide additional details as the information becomes available.
