Detectives with the Force Investigations Unit have been called to investigate after a 68-year-old man went into a cardiac episode following his arrest.
Just after 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, District 1 officers observed a man riding a bicycle near Grand and Itaska. At the time, officers knew the man was wanted on 10 outstanding felony warrants, including burglary, property damage and felony theft. He was also a person-of-interest in three additional burglaries.
The suspect took off from officers on his bicycle. While officers attempted to detain the suspect, he fell off his bicycle.
After being placed under arrest, officers located suspected narcotics on the 68-year-old.
The man was later transported to the hospital after complaining of not feeling well. The man went into cardiac arrest at the hospital and died just before 4pm.
