For months, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has been investigating a string of wire thefts that resulted in the arrest of an adult man connected to dozens of thefts.
Investigators assigned to the Crime Analysis Unit, Intelligence, District 1, District 2 and District 6 worked together in a joint investigation and identified a 34-year-old man responsible for at least 25 different incidents.
Wire thefts have a detrimental impact on infrastructure that can lead to disruptions in essential services, safety hazards, and leaving victims in financial strain.
Detectives located and arrested the suspect while he operated a stolen Ford F250. During a search of the stolen struck, a large amount of wire and a street lamp were located.
Detectives presented their case to the Circuit Attorney’s Office and 63 felony charges were issued along with three misdemeanors. The charges range from Stealing Over $750.00, Tampering with Utilities First Degree, Property Damage 1st, Tampering 1st, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
This investigation remains ongoing but detectives believe the man’s crimes resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage.
