The SLMPD Public Transportation Unit is investigating an incident wherein an unknown male was struck by a MetroLink in Midtown.
At approximately 6:12 p.m., District 5 officers received a call for an “Accident – Person Struck.” Upon arriving, they located an adult male that had been stuck by a MetroLink train on the tracks in the rear of 1 Ikea Way. EMS responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
A scene investigation and review of video footage revealed the unidentified man walked to the eastbound train tracks at approximately 6:01 p.m. and laid down on the tracks. A MetroLink train approaches approximately five minutes later. The operator of the train blew the trains horn and attempted an emergency stop; however, the train was unable to stop in time enough before striking the man.
The Medical Examiner’s Office took possession of the body. The investigation remains ongoing.
