UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Elmer Murphy. His next of kin has been notified.
A 50-year-old man died August 10, 2025, more than a week after being stabbed.
On July 29th, 2025, just after 6:00 AM, District 1 officers were called to the 100 block of Fassen Street for a cutting. When officers arrived, they located the victim, a 50-year-old man, lying in the street in the 200 block of Fassen Street. The victim was conscious and breathing but was injured from the stabbing. The victim told officers that he knew the suspect that stabbed him during a fight.
The victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries and originally listed in critical, but stable condition. He was released from the hospital on August 2nd.
The victim returned to the hospital on August 7, 2025, and readmitted due to complications. He ultimately died on August 10, 2025.
The Medical Examiner contacted SLMPD’s Homicide Division and informed detectives of the victim’s death. An autopsy determined the victim died from complications from his original injuries.
Next of kin notification is pending.
