UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Malik McDile. The victim’s family has been notified.
UPDATE: The Medical Examiner’s Office notified the Homicide Division and advised the victim died from his injury shortly after 1:45 p.m. on September 25, 2025 at the hospital. Therefore, homicide detectives are assuming the ongoing investigation.

District 6 detectives are investigating a shooting that injured a man on September 24, 2025 in the Fairground neighborhood.
Shortly after 11:50 p.m., officers received a call for a shooting in the 4500 block of Fair Avenue. Upon arriving, they located a 28-year-old man inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. EMS responded and transported the man to the hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition. He was not able to provide a statement.
While responding to this call, two marked SLMPD police SUVs collided with each other. An officer in one of the SUVs sustained a minor knee injury, however refused EMS.
An investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains ongoing.
