Just before 10:00 am on Saturday, September 13, 2025, District 3 officers were in the 3600 block of S. Grand Blvd investigating a suspicious person.

Officers parked their patrol SUV to conduct the investigation. As the officer in the passenger seat exited, the suspect pulled a firearm. Two officers then discharged their service weapons — one of the officers fired from the patrol SUV.
The suspect died and his firearm was recovered at the scene.
Upon review, Force detectives learned the suspect pulled a CO2-powered air pistol, designed to resemble a traditional firearm.
No officers were injured.
The identity of the suspect remains unknown at this time.
The Force Investigation Unit is handling the investigation. ‬
