UPDATE: Man Shot After Burglarizing Home in Hyde Park (UNCONFIRMED)

Update: Officers investigated the scene for additional evidence that the 42-year-old suspect was struck by gunfire. There was no blood evidence located at the scene, leading to the possibility that the suspect may not have been shot. However, due to the victim’s statement that the suspect was struck, this incident will continue to be investigated as involving a possible shooting victim.


District 4 is investigating a burglary that led to a shooting on March 20, 2025 in the 1900 block of Destrehan.

A 69-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman told officers they were in their home when a known 42-year-old male unlawfully entered their home at approximately 7 p.m. The man and woman said the suspect was armed with a knife and attempted to force the woman to leave with him.

The 69-year-old man said he retrieved his own firearm and fired a shot at the 42-year-old man, striking the man in the leg. The 42-year-old suspect then fled from the scene.

As of this writing, the 42-year-old suspect has not been located and has not shown up at any local hospital. The investigation remains ongoing.
