One Dead, Another Injured in Walnut Park East Crash

Accident Reconstruction is investigating a fatal crash that happened around 10:20 a.m. on February 13 at West Florissant & Arlington.

A preliminary investigation revealed a Chevy Cobalt was traveling west on West Florissant approaching Arlington when it veered into the eastbound lanes of West Florissant for unknown reasons. After veering into the eastbound lane of traffic, the Cobalt struck a St. Louis City Refuse truck which was traveling eastbound on West Florissant.

The City Refuse truck rolled onto its side after the driver attempted to avoid the collision. During the collision, a wheel broke off the Cobalt and struck a nearby Kia Sportage.

EMS responded and pronounced the driver of the Cobalt dead at the scene. He has been identified as 40-year-old Gemayel Bell.

The driver of the City Refuse truck, a 58-year-old male, was transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition. The occupants of the Kia Sportage, a 57-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, were not injured.

The investigation remains ongoing.
