On January 2, 2026, just after 12:30 AM, District 6 officers responded to I-70 eastbound, just east of Union for an Accident, Person Struck. When they arrived, they located an adult male that was not conscious and not breathing. The man died on scene.
The driver of a black Kia Niro (the striking vehicle) remained on scene. He and his passenger were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
A preliminary investigation suggests the pedestrian was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of I-70, just east of Union, when the Kia Niro, which was traveling east on I-70, struck the pedestrian.
The SLMPD Accident Reconstruction Unit was called to the scene and is handling the investigation.
