SLMPD Announces Launch of New Website

St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has announced the launch of a new website, with a clean, modern design that enhances usability and accessibility for the public.

“We are excited to launch our new website, and to make it easier than ever for the public to learn about SLMPD and our work,” said Commissioner Robert J. Tracy. “This not only increases our transparency, but also holds us accountable to the community we serve.”

While still accessible at www.SLMPD.org, the new site resembles a complete overhaul of our prior platform, which was last updated between 2009 and 2010.  The department’s new website is now configured to support viewing on mobile devices, and has a range of new features that include:

  • A new “Data and Reports” section of the website, which collects detailed reports and statistics that the department has previously released and posted online; much of this information, including a calls for service viewer, was previously linked on other pages – or not at all – and was not easy to find
  • The expansion of our Crime Statistics webpage to include the department’s weekly CompStat reports – a new resource for the public; these reports are generated weekly and are used during our CompStat meetings to review crime trends and patterns throughout St. Louis, informing decision making and the allocation of resources
  • A “News” section of the site, which will include crime alerts, investigations and public releases; this will support our efforts to increase the number of releases we issue, with an eye towards sharing more proactive information about our department’s service with the public
    • Crime and Investigation updates can also be found on the North Patrol, Central Patrol and South Patrol pages, making it easier for residents to learn about what’s happening in their neighborhood
  • A new webpage dedicated to sharing our department’s Policies and Procedures, as we work to make more of these available for public review
  • New refreshed content throughout the site, including an annual report of projects supported by the St. Louis Police Foundation
  • Enhanced language translation tools integrated throughout the site

The website is a key component to increase transparency and offer the public with additional tools to stay informed about crime in their neighborhoods and keep up to date with how our department is working to enhance public safety throughout the city.

The new platform was developed by Inverse Paradox, through the financial support of the St. Louis Police Foundation.

“We appreciate the support of the St. Louis Police Foundation, which made this project possible without impacting our budget,” Tracy said. “This is yet another great example of how the Foundation supports our department, as well as our community.”

As the SLMPD marks this historical milestone, there’s much more to come. The launch of the new website paves the way to offer interactive Crime Mapping and other technological tools soon.
