UPDATE: The man involved in this incident is 72-years-old and has been charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Armed Criminal Action.
Around 7 a.m. on March 12, 2025, St. Louis 911 received a call from a man claiming a knife had been pulled on him.
Officers arrived on scene and located a man in his late 60s or early 70s with a large butcher style knife standing in the 5500 block of Wells.
After several commands from officers to drop the knife, the man started to approach officers with the knife in hand in a threatening manner. The officers continued with commands while backing up to maintain a reactionary gap and the man then started running towards them. An officer, with approximately three years of service, then discharged their weapon.
EMS responded and transported the man to a nearby hospital where he is stable and expected to survive.
The Force Investigation Unit has responded to the scene and will assume the investigation. A knife has been recovered from the scene.
