SLMPD Responds to Shots Fired Calls on NYE

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to hundreds of shots fired calls on New Year’s Eve and early New Year’s Day.

Between 11pm on December 31 and 1am on January 1, we received 167 shots fired calls and ShotSpotter Activations.

During Operation Fun Without Guns which is in effect from 6pm on December 31-2am on January 1:

  • 6 p.m. on 12/31/24 through 2 a.m. on 1/1/25 – 532 calls
  • 6 p.m. on 12/31/23 through 2 a.m. on 1/1/24 – 501 calls
  • 6 p.m. on 12/31/22 through 2 a.m. on 1/1/23 – 328 calls
  • 6 p.m. on 12/31/21 through 2 a.m. on 1/1/22 – 684 calls
  • 6 p.m. 12/31/20 to 2 a.m. on 1/1/21 – 542 calls
  • 6 p.m. 12/31/19 to 2 a.m. on 1/1/20 – 544 calls
  • 6 p.m. 12/31/18 to 2 a.m. on 1/1/19 – 458 calls
  • 6 p.m. 12/31/17 to 2 a.m. on 1/1/18 – 396 calls

Around 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day, officers were on patrol when they heard shots fired in the 4300 block of California. Officers started to investigate and saw muzzle flashes coming from a backyard. Officers eventually took two people into custody and seized a firearm. 125 spent cartridge casings were recovered.
