Suspects Shot by Victim During Robbery in Bevo Mill

Just after 5:30 p.m. on August 5, District 1 officers responded to a call for a shooting at Amberg Park. When they arrived, officers located the victim, a man in his 30’s who had been shot in his leg. The man stated he was sitting in the park, when two males robbed him of his backpack at gunpoint. After the man gave up his backpack, the victim produced his own gun and exchanged gunfire with the suspects.

During the shootout, the robbery victim was shot in the leg. The victim also reported to officers that he believed he shot one or both of the suspects because he heard them yelling that they were hit as they ran away. The victim was later taken to the hospital and listed as stable.

While officers were on scene investigating the shooting, they received information that two men in their twenties arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds to their lower extremities. Detectives responded and determined they were the suspects who had robbed the victim. Both suspects were listed in stable condition.

Detectives searched the vehicle the suspects arrived in where they located two firearms and the victim’s stolen backpack.

The two suspects are currently in police custody while being treated for their injuries. Charges will be forthcoming.
