On June 15th, 2025, just before 1:20am, District 4 officers received multiple calls in the 1500 block of Washington Ave for fights and shots fired.
When officers arrived, they located a 16-year-old boy who had been struck by a vehicle and a 29-year-old woman who was shot and also struck by a vehicle. The 16-year-old boy died on scene. The 29-year-old woman was transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition.
Homicide Detectives and the Accident Reconstruction Unit were called to the scene to investigate. The SLMPD Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a fight broke out between two groups in front of an apartment building in the 1500 block of Washington Ave.
The fight stemmed from an unsanctioned rooftop loft party and whether to let one group of people into the party who were allegedly armed. The argument led to shots being fired by both groups.
A burgundy vehicle drove onto the sidewalk, with the passenger of the vehicle firing shots. The vehicle struck the 16-year-old and the 29-year-old woman before fleeing the scene.
Detectives and officers were able to track and locate the vehicle to an address in District 6 where a man and woman were taken into custody.
Charges were issued against the driver, a 26-year-old man, for “Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death”. Detectives continue to determine the 29-year-old’s role in the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
