UPDATE: The deceased woman has been identified as 23-year-old Lejla Hadzikadunic of Lemay, MO. The deceased man has been identified as 31-year-old Demarion Hendricks of East St. Louis, IL.
Accident Reconstruction is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on December 12, 2025 at the entrance ramp of Interstate 55 from 4500 Broadway Street.
A preliminary investigation revealed that around 11:55 p.m., a Kia K4 was travelling on I-55 when its left front tire went flat. The Kia then stopped on the entrance ramp from 4500 Broadway onto I-55.
The driver of the Kia, an unidentified woman, stood outside the Kia while an unidentified male, who was known to the woman, worked on changing the Kia’s flat tire. During that time, a Dodge Ram that was traveling northbound on Broadway entered onto I-55 northbound at 4500 Broadway. The driver of the Dodge reported he observed the Kia in the lane; however, he did not realize there were people standing outside of the vehicle. The Dodge struck both the unidentified man and woman before striking a guardrail and coming to a stop.
EMS responded to the scene. The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The unidentified man was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Dodge was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is cooperating with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
