On January 3, 2026, around 11:40 PM, officers from District 4 and 5 responded for an Accident with Injuries at Vandeventer and McPherson.
A preliminary investigation suggests that a black Dodge Durango was travelling west on McPherson when it collided with a black Hyundai Santa Fe that was travelling south on Vandeventer. The collision caused the driver of the Hyundai to be ejected.
All parties were taken to the hospital for their injuries. The driver and occupant of the Durango were listed in stable condition. The driver of the Hyundai, an adult female, later died at the hospital.
The SLMPD Accident Reconstruction Unit responded and is handling the investigation. It is unclear at this time which vehicle violated the electric signal.
