District 1 is investigating an assault that occurred during a burglary on July 14 at an apartment in the Dutchtown neighborhood.
Around 10:30 p.m., officers received a call for an assault in the 3500 block of Bingham. An investigation revealed a 42-year-old male suspect force his way into his ex-girlfriend’s, a 37-year-old woman’s, apartment and physically assaulted her while threatening to kill her. During the assault, the suspect retrieved a knife from the kitchen and attempted to stab her; however, the victim blocked the attempts and was cut on her hand in the process. The suspect fled after being advised police were being contacted.
The victim sustained a small laceration to her hand and marks on her face but declined medical attention at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
