Just after 6:30 p.m. on January 31, 2026, detectives with the Force Investigations Unit were contacted by the St. Louis City Justice Center regarding a female detainee who died while in-custody.
City Justice Center staff report that 32-year-old Dametria McDile was found unresponsive in her cell just before 4:45 p.m. A preliminary investigation reveals the detainee was in a cell by herself.
Medical personnel responded and performed life-saving measures. The woman was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead just after 6:00 p.m.
SLMPD’s Force Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating all in-custody deaths and deadly force incidents involving law enforcement that occur within the City of St. Louis. Detectives will conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation and prepare a full report.
